Five years. He was going to have to stay here for five years, and when that was over -provided he survived it- his spouse was to come and live on Asgard for another five.
Five years, while truly nothing in the grand scheme of things, might as well have been a lifetime, especially because he wasn't allowed to take any weapons with him -a show of peace- and even Mjolnir would be kept in the Observatory with Heimdall for that time. Normally, of course, it would be returned to the armory, but Heimdall was one of the few who could keep it where it was even if Thor attempted to summon it, and likewise would know if Thor actually needed to summon it. If he were truly in danger, Heimdall would know and would allow the release of the hammer.
Thor had been a part of the peace talks, as he was at fault for inciting the war -or attempted incitement- and was only part of them reluctantly after they'd turned to marriage as a means of securing peace, and he knew that he'd been promised to Laufey's youngest, though he'd yet to actually set eyes on his spouse, at least so far as he knew.
He arrived by horse, with a bundle of belongings, clothes, some spare furs, a handful of books from his mother, along with a golden lamp she'd fashioned for him, as she knew that Jotunheim only got a few days of watery sunlight every year, and knew that Thor would need something closer to Asgard's warm glow if he was going to thrive there. Not that he fully realized the significance of the gift, thinking it was just a memento of home.
He managed, through concentrated effort, to look neutral instead of sullen, even as he was announced and his horse was led away by an attendant, though he was certain it was the last he'd see of her, the fact that Jotun ate horses was something that was simply known among Asgardians. It was why he hadn't brought his favorite horse, but one of the older ones who still liked him well enough. He straightened his shoulders, refusing to let himself be intimidated by the palace or the open stares of its inhabitants.
